The Big Revision, Blog 3

By Wendy
This month an epic thing happened in the dog breed, breeders came together, had a month long discussion, and revised the CMDR standard and added the shorter coats to our higher generation dogs, okaying the shorter coats in the breed now as part of the breed description.

That may not seem unusual, but it was our first revision in 15 years. It shows the stability of our standard. Also, it is the first time I have ever heard of a breed registry opening discussion with breeders regarding a breed standard, and coming to consensus before writing in the revision. Most breed organizations hand down such changes from a pretty high tower.

The larger percentage of people in the CMDR are new at this, and have no idea how amazing that revision went, nor how this method of breed growth, including breeders, speaks about the philosophy of the registry.

To gather input we took a poll, and we gave breeders perspectives weight, according to how many registered litters they had in the database. That way we could ensure that the feedback we received was weighted towards our most experienced breeders, the ones who have been here awhile, and have experienced, worked, raised, and evaluated the most dogs.
